Bob Berman is one of the best-known and most widely-read astronomers in the world. He is perhaps uniquely able to translate complex scientific concepts into language that is understandable to the casual observer yet meaningful to the most advanced. His dry, edgy wit engages readers of such diverse publications as Discover Magazine, Astronomy Magazine, and The Old Farmers Almanac. He is the author of seven books. His newest and most epic, “The Sun’s Heartbeat,” will be published this July by Little, Brown.

Australia Total Eclipse at the Great Barrier Reef
The great Total Solar Eclipse of November 13, 2012, is the final eclipse during the next six years that occurs over land and has a better than 50-50 chance of clear skies.
It will be visible from northeastern Australia – the part of that country closest to the Great Barrier Reef – as a morning event, with the Sun over the unobstructed ocean approximately 13 ½ degrees high. The event will unfold over two hours, with totality lasting approximately 2 minutes, 4 seconds. At our viewing location, long term climatological statistics show a 62% probability of the Sun being visible and not blocked by clouds.

The Northern LightsTour ~ March 7, 2013
The Aurora Borealis is one of nature’s most spectacular sights. In March, 2013, we will be in the world’s premier location for viewing the spectacle – directly beneath the “auroral oval.” Because of the growing activity on the sun, astronomers expect the next two years to be particularly splendid. The night also brings primordial darkness, here 60 miles from civilization. We have chosen the period surrounding new moon to ensure inky skies, whose stars seem beyond belief in number and intensity. Bob will be lecturing this evening, as well as being outside for the star and light show.
