Bob Berman
is one of the best-known and most widely-read astronomers in the world. He is perhaps uniquely able to translate complex scientific concepts into language that is understandable to the casual observer yet meaningful to the most advanced. His dry, edgy wit engages readers of such diverse publications as Discover Magazine, Astronomy Magazine, and The Old Farmers Almanac. He is the author of seven books. His newest and most epic, “The Sun’s Heartbeat,” will be published this July by Little, Brown.

See the great comet ISON from the Atacama desert!

Few sights in our sky are more impressive than that of a “Great Comet.” Often appearing as bright (or brighter) than the brightest stars, and with bright tails that may span a considerable distance across the nighttime sky.

Observe it first, as it’s brightening prior to perihelion. One week expedition to ideal observing sites in Chile, includes trips to the largest observatories in the Andes, explorations of penguin and whale habitats and other wonders of the famous Humboldt current, once in a lifetime experience — and affordable.

Northern Lights tour of AlaskaThe Northern LightsTour  ~ March 1st, 2014

The Aurora Borealis is one of nature’s most spectacular sights. In March, 2014, we will be in the world’s premier location for viewing the spectacle – directly beneath the “auroral oval.”  Because of the growing activity on the sun, astronomers expect the next two years to be particularly splendid.  The night also brings primordial darkness, here 60 miles from civilization. We have chosen the period surrounding new moon to ensure inky skies, whose stars seem beyond belief in number and intensity. Bob will be lecturing this evening, as well as being outside for the star and light show.
